Meet Sustaira: Balasubramanian Devarajan – AI Enthusiast, Sustainability Advocate, and Global Explorer
At Sustaira, we’re building a team of passionate people who are using technology to make sustainability practical, measurable, and impactful. Today, we’re excited to introduce Balasubramanian Devarajan, aka Bala, our new AI Intern, who is combining technical expertise with a mission to create real-world solutions for a better planet.
We sat down with Bala to learn about his journey, his vision for sustainability, and what he does when he’s not coding AI systems.
Where do you call home?
I’m from India, currently doing my master’s in the Netherlands.
What inspired you to join Sustaira?
After my previous experiences and my current study, I wanted to be able to use AI to create something meaningful. I aspire to create solutions that actively contribute to shaping a better world, leveraging these advanced tools to address critical global challenges and foster positive societal transformation. Sustaira provides me with an opportunity to implement what I learn in a real-world setting and to help solve actual problems.
What will be your role at Sustaira?
I will be an AI Intern at Sustaira and will be responsible for implementing AI agents and systems into Sustaira’s platforms.
What does sustainability mean to you personally?
To me, sustainability is about the small changes we make in our daily lives that create an impact on the world. It’s not just about big policies or large-scale projects. It’s about the choices I make every day, whether that’s reducing waste, conserving energy, or being mindful of my consumption. This ensures that future generations can thrive in a healthy, balanced environment.
What opportunities do you see for AI to accelerate sustainability goals?
I believe AI has the potential to accelerate sustainability goals in much the same way technology has shaped every aspect of our lives. AI can help us make smarter, data-driven decisions that reduce waste and predict environmental challenges before they escalate.
Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m from Chennai, India. I aim to travel around Europe during my stay here. I’ve trained for a bunch of sports including tennis, basketball, badminton, cricket, chess, and volleyball, and I aim to learn more!
