Customer Case Story: Ports of Jersey

Industry: Transport & Infrastructure
Focus Area: Sustainability Reporting & Data Automation
Key Outcomes: X% reduction in reporting time, improved cross-departmental engagement, tailored automation roadmap

The Customer

Ports of Jersey is the backbone of connectivity and marine operations in the Channel Islands. As a States Owned Entity, it oversees Jersey’s airport, commercial and historic harbours, marinas, and coastguard services. It also owns and leases vessels internationally to support essential marine operations like hydrographic surveying, dredging, and towing. Since transitioning from a government department to an incorporated company in 2015, Ports of Jersey has embraced modernization and innovation at every level.

The Challenge

With a wide scope of operations and a commitment to driving sustainability, Ports of Jersey faced a major hurdle: lack of reliable, accessible data. Manual reporting processes limited their ability to identify baselines, track progress, and communicate sustainability efforts across the organization. Without centralized, real-time insights, creating annual sustainability reports was time-consuming and often reactive rather than strategic.

The Solution

In search of a platform that could adapt to their unique operational needs, Ports of Jersey partnered with Sustaira. They quickly discovered that conventional, off-the-shelf solutions wouldn’t support their level of complexity. Sustaira offered a tailored approach—working collaboratively to build a flexible, scalable platform that automated data collection, reporting, and carbon footprint analysis.

“It has been a great experience working with the Sustaira team. Having such a personalised service makes such a difference and means we can get our data presented in a way that enables our teams to make data-led decisions and take accountability for driving our sustainability strategy forwards.”
Sophie Alexander, Head of Sustainability and Community
